Jim Shamp, director of public relations for the North Carolina Biotechnology Center, which is located within Research Triangle Park (RTP), poses for a portrait on March 19. Shamp has been growing a mustache for over 50 years and has been growing the very characteristic “handlebar mustache” for the last 10. Shamp stated that a little over 10 years ago he was cleaning some brush up from his yard after a storm and one of the tree limbs smack him across the face where his mustache was. The swipe of the tree branch left what appeared to be a Nike swooshes on his mustache and when he arrived back inside of his house his wife stated that she liked the look and he has been with the style ever since. Shamp uses all-natural beeswax from Oregon to finish off and style the ends to his unique “stache”.
